Children’s Outdoor Playscape

 12  /   4 /   2018

Initiating the exploration of ‘Leisure and Architecture’ this project deals with the basic action of ‘play’ and leisure at the smallest scale through the understanding of recycled materials and their relationship to the crafting of spaces for children experience. The design: RE-PLAY – CHILDREN’S OUTDOOR PLAYSCAPE, which is intended to showcase specific material ( wooden spools) for a proposed set of activities. It is to develop awareness of environmental sustainability through the responsible and innovative use of reclaimable and re-purposed materials in relation to childrens' needs in their term of leisure and play environment. The exploration of ‘play’ in this project will relate to the programmatic requirements in Project 2.

For a start, we are to identify several main aspects of the structure – use, size, design requirements, etc. Several key questions to be addressed:

  • Kids of 7- 12 years old of age.

  • Special activities proposed

  • Recyclable materials like the wooden spool to be re used as a play element

  • Construction methods that could be used- special fixings and fixtures

Truth be told, these group mates and project made me acknowledge in-depth of who and what our playscape needs, to cater the childrens' ecstatic energy. The many developments of models and ideas sometimes throws us apart and have a tantrum among each other. Burying the hatchet, i learnt to be more lineant and should be more cooperative with my group by letting myself to be more involved. Ideas and decisions should be determined together to achieve the outcome. Because from someones' perspective, some ideas will have flaws; rectifying it together and keep going forward.
