Ben-Bow Enrichment Learning Centre in Klang

The design develops into the final scheme of design where it interprets the tendency of creating interest through enclosure. The enclosure setting fits the contexts of creating a separate realm in conjunction of the prevailing street context. The realm where people can retreat and dwell into by having spaces to informally and formally elaborate learn through the form of classrooms &workshops, public rentable outlets giving a sense of place for anyone, a canteen to rehydrate oneself, public toilets accessible for everyone, dynamic facade initiative where greenery can be planted and replanted, and a compact "park". Spaces of place-making which develops with humankind in relation with the built form.

BEN - BOW LEARNING CENTER IN KLANG
Klang heeds the call towards a new form of social living through an architectural intervention which embodies the vibrancy nature in people to further gentrify the vicinity of the area regularly. Thus, the proposal of a design to interpret the needs of the people ideal learning centre of what can be done for the people, whilst an initiative adjourning the sprout of negative perception of the withered site. The Ben-Bow learning centre as a catalyst to reform the social vibrancy amongst the immediate column of people, to inject a social bond with one another which then results to the meaning of the site and its context.

Accounting the pioneer of Malaysia's trivial value in being at home during the pioneer of Klang 's capital efforts of that time, Malaya. Tenaga Buruh or labour, would be pulled through here to find job opportunities in this blooming country during the early 20th century. Following the intensive period in history whereby the land was threatened, monopolized ,dijajah (invaded). The people would commonly seek refuge within the vertical building blocks which riddle along the bustling street of Jalan Stesen 1, Klang.
Back then it was a prosperous time for exploring, invention, development. Opportunities were the effort of the people to astound the area to be a wildly known town seek privilege in the money-making world. Fast forward years later, Jalan Stesen 1 has aged along with the local people who stood in it. 80 years ago in particular, was significant as my grandparents made way and settle in the important port settlement in the world. They've been in the glory days as well for the forgiving retiring age of Klang.
Bringing emphasis back to the present, we find the quiet street still bustling with locals bridging from its neighbor little India nearby township like Bukit Tinggi, seniors from the Port Klang, as well as people from Shah Alam. Though not as vibrant and classy back in the pioneer days, it can be seen the culture of working prevails. The times the local adapt with the changing times, providing trending services and goods; while maintaining several heritable trait-line in business. People heading to banks, buying cakes, having breakfast or posting parcels & mails generates the impact of how the town is being used and is still needed aside from historical landmark of infrastructure, Klang's KTM.
With the times of the old exchanging hands with the tales of ageing times, some conservative ideas of a couple of individual intends to understands and retains the genius loci of the place, Jalan Stesen 1. The charismatic serene character of Jalan Stesen 1 is complimented with the addition of hand brew-crafting in coffee making. Their artworks sits knowingly amognst the fellow artisans along the street.
Seraph Awaken, the tiny shoplot retains its many architectural language and wants to evoke the timeless feeling of being back in the days. This was an opportunity for my group and me to experience history embodied within the built structure. Understanding and appreciating the sentience in architecture, where sometimes buildings do die.
We had the chance to documentate and recreate the shoplot model digitally through the Revit software. This efforts enables the municipal district to record the history of built structure along the street whereby Seraph Awaken was once owned by a lad.

Of course, the fun in measured drawing is to create an alternate dimension of model making. Compacting reality into an expressed scale to understand the minuscule scale model brings vast awareness of preservation of traditional Asian architecture. A couple iterations were made to better understand the building through hands before entering digital stage. Also we kiasu.
Three months wasn't a lot; but enough to understand and achieve the objective of measured drawing. We must heed the dying call of these dying timeless artifacts. they withstood time co-existing with us throughout the century. The least we can do to respect these structures are to acknowledge them. From here, ideas will derive to preserve them. My group been through anger, tiredness, hunger, giving up, drunk , somber, crying, and most of all, regret; but all these were the over exaggerated story of partaking this life in architecture. .This module brought up the best in alot of us by taking to the next extent of responsibility, teamwork, and loving friendships (well, most of them).
